SHARING SNOWY FEBRUARY FARM TOUR PHOTOS TODAY. ONCE AGAIN, I AM AWED BY THE SNOW SCENES ALL AROUND ME AND THE GOD WHO CREATED THEM.

FEBRUARY 2019

Snowy february farm tour rail fence with wagon wheels scene
I love this fence along our Berry Park. Many, many u-pick customers take pictures along this fence. My sons and I have built most of the fences on our farm with old apple prop wood from the neighboring farms. It is hard, but satisfying work.

Photography has never really been my thing. I think it could be because it is creative and it takes an eye for the scene, and I have those things. I have just not chosen to take the time to practice it in my life. But, of late I have been practicing my photography skills out of necessity for this blog and this day had me frustrated at best.

The flat light on the overcast snow day was difficult at best. There just wasn’t any spark of color. Not even to the naked eye.

At first I decided I wasn’t going to publish these. But then I thought, this was the best I could do on this overcast snow day and it is a measure in time of my skills (or lack there of) with a camera.

I thought about taking the easy way out and making them all black and white, or sepia. In the end I left them as they were. I think it brings the eye to the timeworn woods and metals that I love.

So, for better or worse…

Here are my snowy February farm tour photos. I appreciate your grace with my journey!

snowy february farm tour vintage lawn mower and rustic birdhouse

Old junk…I know my farmer scratches his head whenever I drag something new home from the local yard sale. But this old mower and all the old ‘junk’ in the following pictures do have a certain charm and beauty all their own. I think they tell stories…of simpler times, hard working days, of craftsmanship and of great care.

snowy february farm tour john deere tractor in snow

What would a snowy February farm tour be without a picture of one of our tractors covered in snow? This photo and the two below of our blueberry field and the cherry orchard make me think of seasons of rest.

I am so thankful of the winter season of rest God provides us. As farmers, the slower pace in winter helps us to face the long hours, hard work and pressures of the season ahead.

Unexpected beauty

snowy february farm tour stack of vintage wooden apple boxes in the snow

This picture above and the one below are some of my favorites of the day. The stack of old apple boxes and the ladders leaning…with their brokenness and messiness… just grab me. I usually just think of these areas on our farm as a big ugly eyesores, but this day, seen through the filter of snow and gray weather, they are stunning.

They remind me that even in messes and brokenness we can find joy…through Christ. Only He makes beauty from ashes, joy from brokenness and despair.

Above is our little Farm Store where I putter and great farm guests in the summer. It is where we sell fresh picked produce, pies, frozen berries, farmhouse decor, candles and more. It is a place of welcome and joy as we greet our farm visitors and find out more about them every time they visit.

snowy february farm tour ski chair lift garden swing covered in snow

Yes, that is a ski lift chair above! My sweet hubby bought this for me on my 34th birthday when our local ski hill, where we both grew up skiing and taught all our kids to ski, took out an old lift.

He then welded a frame and hung it as a swing in our yard in the shade of a tree. We love to swing here together, my farmer and I.

Our family LOVES to ski. So this is our taste of the mountains, and skiing, all year long right in my back yard.

More farm life scenes…

snowy february farm tour old wooden wagon that is used for a stage

Above is our old wagon that we use for a stage at farm festivals. Many a music band has blessed our guests from it’s deck.

snowy february farm tour chickens and ducks in the farmyard

The chickens and ducks are finally getting out more in the snow. For days while the drifts were deep they hardly dared to come out. The ducks still enjoy swimming in their little pond every day.

Above are some random shots around the farm and yard. I love the frosty vine on the pergola. It is a silver lace vine and is stunning with white flowers all summer too.

snowy february farm tour farm gator feeding cattle

Our oldest son at home takes care of the cattle each day, rain or shine. I snapped this just as he was returning from the pasture to feed and water.

No snowy February farm tour would be complete without some of our pets!

Our farm dogs Buster and Maggie are the most patient of creatures…. although they don’t pose well for pictures!. They welcome thousands of visitors to our farm each season…lovingly putting up with their toddlers ear and fur pulling, sharing the hayride with the school kids, and trying very hard not to taste their snacks. Lovey little Pumpkin is our newest kitty to our farm.

Hope you enjoyed my snowy February farm tour

I think the tour was lovely! Your photos are very good, I know how it is though, you can always picture how much better it would be with sun! I love the snow pictures. I like that the snow often hides the mess at our farm! When it melts, it reveals the mud and random junk in the yard!!
